First Snow in South Korea 2024 My First Snow Experience as an Exchange Student Growing up in a tropical climate, snow was always something out of a dream for me, a white wonderland I’d only seen in movies and postcards. When I got the scholarship to study abroad, the thought of experiencing snow for the first time was one of the many exciting things on my mind. Still, nothing could have prepared me for how magical it would feel. The forecast has already predicted that there will be first snow on November 27 and it did. On that day, I woke up to a world completely changed. Trees sparkled with white branches, and rooftops wore perfect snowy caps. I took so many pictures that my phone was practically begging for mercy: snow-covered benches, frozen ponds, my own footprints trailing behind me. Every little thing felt worth capturing. I never ran downstairs that fast in my life. I was so excited. I went out and suddenly, tiny white flakes started falling from the sky. View From My Dormitory It Has Already Snowed a Lot It has already snowing a lot and thick. They said it was the thickest after a long time since 1907. I held out my hands, catching the snowflakes and watching them melt on my warm skin. I ran happily and never felt that happy in my entire life. I've loved snow ever since. I played with my friends, we tried to make snowman but it failed. I spent more times to play with snow before got ready for class. Walking to class felt like stepping into a postcard. When I got back to the dorm, my local dorm mates couldn’t help but chuckle at how amazed I was. They called it just a “light dusting” and teased me, saying I hadn’t seen anything yet. But for me, it was magical. That night, I stayed outside longer than I probably should have, making tiny snowballs and marveling at how the snow glowed under the streetlights. It was like my familiar campus had been transformed into a scene from a fairytale. On The Way to Class Snow Wasn’t All Fairytales Of course, I quickly learned that snow wasn’t all fairytales and picture-perfect moments. I slipped on icy sidewalks more times than I’d like to admit, and my thin tropical wardrobe wasn’t cutting it against the freezing temperatures. But even those moments, the clumsy falls and the endless layering up, felt like part of the adventure. Before long, snow became part of my daily life. I learned to build snowmen, had my first snowball fight, and even tried skiing (which, for the record, is way harder than it looks!). Each snowfall brought a fresh sense of wonder and reminded me how lucky I was to experience this. I also learned how to dress properly for snow which you also can follow the tips here.
