The first of the 3 must-visit places for New Year in Korea is Gwanghwamun Square that comes alive at the end of the year with incredible events like Seoul Light Gwanghwamun and the Gwanghwamun Holiday Market. You can enjoy stunning light displays, including a magnificent Christmas tree, while exploring stalls offering handmade crafts and festive treats. These celebrations run until January 5th, 2025. You can also celebrate the New Year with a mix of tradition and festival at Bosingak, near Gwanghwamun, where the iconic bell rings 33 times to welcome the new year. This centuries-old ritual, once used during the Joseon Dynasty to signal the opening and closing of city gates.
